Chocolate Chip Cookies & Dog Treats

Chocolate Chip Cookies (for people)
I totes forgot to update a few weeks ago when I made these cookies. Then, last weekend my husband and I went to a wedding in VA Beach. Now, I’m finally getting a moment (and the motivation) to post the blog entry for the Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Now, if you’ve noticed, I prefer to bake things that contain alcohol. Sadly, I got a special request for “plain chocolate chip cookies”. I was sort of offended. Why doesn’t everyone like alcoholic baking as much as I do!? Hmph. After some searching I settled on this version, with a small twist.
Random notes follow.
  • I used light brown sugar, instead of regular brown sugar (that’s what I had on hand).
  • It was too “doughy” to beat after I added the eggs and vanilla, but it was super hard to stir in the flour. Try a combination of both. Or, get a stand mixer with a paddle attachment instead of a cheap hand mixer like I own.
  • Because I have a deep seeded need to not be “plain”, I used a combination of regular sized & mini sized chocolate chips, chocolate chunks, and white chocolate chips.
  • I flattened the dough slightly after the 1st batch because the bottoms browned a bit too much.
  • Even after about a week (kept in the fridge) these are still tasty. I thought they’d get stale and crumbly, but it didn’t happen. Yay!
enjoy.

Dog Treats
While I remained motivated, I added a few recipes for homemade dog treats.  One of the great things about making dog treats is that a dog will (most likely) eat them even if they’re not perfect! I bake them randomly to supplement my pup’s regular Milkbones. Up until yesterday I’ve cut the “cookies” with a small (people food) biscuit cutter… fortunately an awesome friend found me bone, fire hydrant, and dog house shaped cookie cutters. Yay!
Have fun!

Happy Baking.

Misunderstood Animals

I constantly have random thoughts. All the time. In fact it’s hard for me to pay attention during conversations. For shiz, when I was younger (before it was cool) I was “diagnosed” with ADD. Yah. I like shiny things.

Which leads me into my current “random thought” and post title. Misunderstood animals. Y’all know what I’m talking about, there are animals in this world that are rarely liked, much less loved. I have an odd affection for misunderstood animals. There’s often something ominous, ugly, or they have terrible reputations… but, I still have a soft sport for them. Oh!  Feel the Looove…

 Ravens
A group of Ravens is called an Unkindness.
They feed on fruits, seeds, nuts, fish, carrion, small animals, food remains and garbage. They even dig on snow to inspect plastic bags with waste.
Raven’s calls can express tenderness, happiness, surprise, emotion or rage.  Some say they can be even taught to learn the human speech (Nevermore!!).
They’re highly intelligent.  Ravens have a high learning ability & problem solving logic.
Celtic and Germanic tribes, as well as American Indians and Siberian people, once believed the raven to be the creator of the visible world.
According to legend, if the ravens leave the Tower of London, the fortress and the British kingdom will fall…

Coyotes
Form strong family groups, pups are taken care of by both parents.
Are strong swimmers, and have colonized the Elizabeth Islands off the coast of Massachusetts.
They’re omnivores.
Coyotes walk on their toes! Sneaky bastards.
Coyotes use a lot of vocalizations to communicate with one another. Howls, yelps, and high-pitched cries are best known, but they also bark, growl, wail, and squeal sometimes. Family groups yelping in unison can create the illusion of a dozen or more performing together.

Opossums
Are North America’s only marsupial mammal!
They have more teeth than any other land mammal (50).
They eat roaches, rats, and dead animals. Many refer to them as “Nature’s Little Sanitation Engineers”.
‘Possums are highly resistant to Rabies, and have a very strong immune system, and a very low body temperature. They also show partial or total immunity to Rattlesnake & Cottonmouth venoms.
They can “play ‘possum” for up to 6 hours.
The tail isn’t strong enough to hang from.

Yup. I could go on and on  about misunderstood/ underappreciated animals… But I see a something sparkly outside and I’m dying to figure out what it is!!

walmart & whale wars (written 11/29/08)

Walmart

so a man in LI, NY got trampled to death on Black Friday as he was trying to control the “Blitz Line” in a Walmart.  WTF are you assholes thinkin? you are all responsible for what happened to that man. i bet he didn’t even want to work that morning, now he’s dead. all because you had to save $20? really people? really? i know i’m going offf on a rant here… but i just can’t believe it. then those people had the balls, to jostle EMS workers? a man lost his life and you still have to get that TV before they’re gone? did anyone even try to help him? or where you too busy consuming? it makes me sad to think that this is how people act. i hope that the people responsible for this are held accountable.  oh yeah… and most of them kept shopping when authorities tried to close the store down. are you fucking kidding me?

http://www.delmarvanow.com/article/20081129/NEWS01/81129002/1002/rss

not 2 mention the 2 idiots who killed eachother in Toys R Us… after the women they were with got in a fight… WTF are you people thinkin?

http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20081129/news_1n29mall.html

if Black Friday is your deal and you like to go out shopping and shit ok… but trample a man to death? kill eachother over toys!?

oh yah… Walmart called it an “unfortunate incident”… no kidding.

Whale Wars

ths is another bit of a rant… goes back to the antivivisectionists & other extremist Animal Rights groups.

so i’m actually ashamed to admit, i was very interested in the Animal Plant show Whale Wars. i wanted to know what it was about. and oh boy did i find out.  first off, let me say that i can’t believe AP would put this show on the air. it is encouraging these extremeists to put themselves in danger, break laws, and in general commit terrorists acts. i agree that Whaling is wrong. and i agree that something should be done about it… but not this way. not like they are doing. i’m all for having strong views and opinions, but don’t jump onto a Japanese ship, practally force them to hold you hostage, then blame them when they do just what you wanted in the first place! you ARE terrorists. you might not be killing people, but you still are an extremist. it’s dangerous and wrong. the captain & founder of Sea Shepards was a founder of GreenPeace… he was asked to leave due to his extreme and dangerous tactics. they mention it on the show, but not on the website. more info on the show below…

http://animal.discovery.com/tv/whale-wars/

these Animal Rights extremists give people who care a bad name. i’m down for saving whales… make laws, not violence. find ways to enforce these laws, don’t break laws. grrrr…

thanks for listening… this shit makes me crazy. love it or hate it… i don’t get it.
